Laura Pascoe, M.S., PhD, CD (Certified Doula)
My name is Laura Pascoe and I have been passionate about all things related to reproductive health, birth, and sexuality ever since I can remember. I am a certified labour & birth doula, and have been working in the field of sexual and reproductive health for over 10 years now – and the learning never ends! I am also currently completing my childbirth educator (CBE) and breastfeeding educator certifications. The birth experience is one that stays with you, regardless of how it happens, and I am committed to providing quality, non-judgmental support to you wherever and however you decide to give birth. I have a deep respect for every person’s journey and their right to make informed decisions about their own body.
Having had the privilege to support people in labour and birth, and also to experience the invaluable support of a doula at our own birth, I know the difference such support and expertise can bring, regardless of the outcome of the birth. As a certified labour & childbirth doula and childbirth educator-in-training, I am deeply committed to providing quality support to you—and your partner, if applicable—in having a positive and powerful birth experience.
I find great joy in connecting with people one-on-one, helping couples connect through the pregnancy and birth experience, and providing comfort and support as folks adjust to having a newborn. I am a sex-positive, fun-loving, and deeply compassionate and empathetic individual, and I am honoured to be serving the Kingston community, through both my own business and the Doula Support Foundation.
In addition to my doula training, I hold a Master’s in Community Development and a PhD in Human Geography, and I am a consultant to nonprofit organisations and universities both locally and internationally in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights, masculinities, gender justice, and gender-based violence prevention and response. I have lived and worked in Canada, the U.S., and overseas supporting men and women in their sexual and reproductive health decision making and working to advance gender and reproductive justice. These experiences translate incredibly well to my doula work and vice versa! I am also incredibly grateful to have a young child, two cats, and a great partner and co-parent.
What’s with the “Bedroom Feminist”?
In addition to providing doula services through With You Birth Services, I also run my own consulting business working with nonprofit organisations and universities both locally and internationally in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights, masculinities, gender justice, and gender-based violence prevention and response. Given all the work I do around supporting and advocating for sexual and reproductive autonomy for all, I’ve become known as the “Bedroom Feminist”! For me, being a feminist means supporting and advocating on behalf of each person’s right to have the kind of sexual and reproductive life they choose without infringing on the rights of others, including supporting women’s right to choose if, when, and how many children they have, as well as to have an informed and empowered birth experience on their own terms.
